Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

After Severe Weather This St Petersburg Garage Needed Restoration

Mid-July can often be a month full of harsh weather and severe storms passing through our coastal area, damaging homes like this St. Petersburg residence in its path. This property experienced a breach of its roof system above the garage, forcing water into the attic and garage levels. Combining water removal tactics and reconstruction efforts would ultimately return this portion of the house to its original condition. Our SERVPRO of NE St. Petersburg team was called in to help as we are a leading team for:

- Water damage remediation

- Water damage repairs

- Leaking roof from storms

- Water removal services

- Ceiling repairs from water damage

Emergency Services to Protect the Property

With a portion of the roof system heavily damaged by a passing weather system, the first step for our experienced SERVPRO professionals was to tarp this vulnerability. Securing heavy, water-resistant tarp materials outside the house using wood planks as a border sealed edges from moisture penetration and provided the conditions for our team to begin other vital mitigation services.

Standing water was a concern on the floors of the garage, even with a drain. Allowing this surface water to persist would allow for mold development, so portable units cleared this pooling from the finished concrete flooring. Water also required removal from the ceiling system drywall that you can still see installed in the After Photo. Some of the tools used for extraction include:

- Wet vacuums

- Light wands

- Drying mats

Material Removal and Surface Cleaning Solutions

While the Before Photo does not show a full collapse of the ceiling system in the garage, continued exposure would ultimately lead to sagging and degradation. A controlled demolition would be used to eliminate portions of this drywall that were too affected by the migrating moisture to remain installed. The After Photo shows the extent of this removal.

Surface cleaning was another focus of our responding team. Areas like the track for the garage door needed to be cleaned and dried to prevent rust damage or other superficial threats that could impact performance or force replacement.

Eliminating Lingering Moisture and Mold Concerns

Axial air movers are a turbine of warm air pointing towards the structural opening visible in the After Photo. This continuous blast of dry air promoted evaporation, and the resulting humidity was regulated and managed by strategically placed low grain refrigerant dehumidifiers.

With so many wood and porous surfaces exposed and visible in the After Photo, mold and microbial growth possibilities were high. Fungistat products were used on these susceptible surfaces to prevent them from becoming hospitable hosts for active mold spores in the environment.
